PROBLEM: EXCESS NOISE FROM SKIMMER

Note: All skimmers make some noise and are not completely quiet

SOLUTION:
1. Clean the impeller

a.
Remove water
b.
Remove the intake tube. With a small brush clean the inside of the impeller well
and impeller
c.
Reassemble Do not force the intake tube back onto the impeller as the ceramic
shaft will break
d.
Follow installation instructions
2. Impeller damage
If there is any damage to the impeller replace the impeller and shaft
3. Venturi tube is set too high
a.
Position the venturi tube so that the bottom of the tube is only a ¼” above the impeller
b.
Loosen the compression nut on the top of the intake tube. This will allow the tube to slide up and down. Slide tube all the way down then raise the tube so the air bubble just start then tighten nut.
PROBLEM: UNIT WILL NOT PRIME
SOLUTION

1. Impeller and or shaft is damaged
2. Compression nut on the top of the venturi is not tight
3. Water level is too low

PROBLEM: NOTHING WILL COLLECT IN THE COLLECTION CUP
SOLUTION
1. There is not a biological load in the aquarium
2. Salinity is too low
Adjust salinity to 10.018-10.025
3. Make sure the water level control is in it highest position
4. Verify the venturi is not all the way down
Venturi tube is raised ¼” above the impeller well
5. The variable venturi needs to be cleaned.
a.
2’ piece of airline tubing and 1 cup of warm water
b.
Connect the airline tubing to the intake of the venturi  place the other side in the warm water allow the venturi to suck the warm water through the intake
6. It may take up to 24 hours for a skimmer to start to work
Set up and wait without any adjustments
7. The foam is unable to climb into the collection cup
a.
due to oils from your hands, lotions, tank additives and/or foods feed
b.
Run carbon filter to remove any impurities
8. Remove the collection cup and wash well with a mild detergent and rinse with hot water.
a.
Insure all the detergent is removed from the collection cup.
  b. Replace collection cup

PROBLEM: ONLY WATER IS COLLECTING IN THE COLLECTION CUP
SOLUTION
1. The salinity is too high
Adjust salinity to 1.018-1.023
2.
The use of additives such as water conditioners, medications, red slime remover and or use of synthetic sea salt are causing the bubbles to bond longer thus the water in the cup.
As collection cup fills dump water and repeat until skimmer is working properly. The problem will persist until the agent causing the problem is removed
3. Decrease water flow with the valve on the intake tube by 20%
4. The aquarium was just cleaned and/or water change was done.
As collection cup fills dump water and repeat until skimmer is working properly.
5. The rate of speed is to fast raise the venturi by ¼”  wait one hour and repeat if needed
6. Decrease the water level by lower the water level control.
PROBLEM: SMALL AIR BUBBLES ARE DISCHARGEING BACK INTO THE AQUARIUM.
SOLUTION
1. The filter pad is clogged
a.
Water/air bubbles are escaping over the filter cartridge
b.
Replace filter pad
2. The salinity is too high.
Adjust salinity to 1.018-1.023
3. Decrease water flow
Decrease with the valve on the intake tube by 20%
4.
The use of water conditioners (de-chlorinator, stress coats, algaecides, and red slime removers) will increase the surface tension.
Connect a piece of airline tubing to the intake of the variable venturi and submerse the opposite end in the aquarium so the unit is just a power filter for 24 hours and resume operation.
5. New tanks with the addition of uncured live rock will cause very poor water quality
20% of the water daily until water quality improves and skimmer starts to work properly
